Long-Tail – no surprises here, long-tail keywords are longer phrases or questions that users may search to find your site. For example, ‘where to buy gym gear’.

The idea is to get to the first page of search engine listings, such as Google, so that people can find your product or services more easily. The easier you make it for users to find you, the more you can sell and the better your profits will be. Pretty simple, right?

You should also add keywords into the content on all of your landing pages. Your home page, about page, and contact page are all ripe for adding keywords into. The goal is that no matter what page people want to enter your site through; it contains the keywords for you to get noticed.

2. Blog

Many businesses increase their rankings by adding a blog to their website. This is an easy form of content marketing as you can create engaging, informative posts on subjects that are relevant to your business. Even better, these blogs are the ideal place to use both long and short-tail keywords to get your posts noticed.

When including keywords in a blog post, ensure that they come across as natural, not forced in where they don’t make sense. The main point of a blog is to provide users with quality information that they can’t find elsewhere. You need to keep this front of mind when you’re creating content and adding keywords. Don’t let the keywords get in the way of your message.

3. Product or Service Pages

If you sell products or services, you need to include keywords within the descriptions for these. A good length to aim for is more than 800 words. Why? Because this gives you more room to add keywords and describe your product to buyers. Don’t just write a massive product description, though. You can also add information on caring for and using the product. Keep it interesting and break up the information into bite-sized chunks for the best user experience.
This is the best way to rank for your product or service when someone uses that keyword to search for it. You want to be one of the first results they see.

4. URLs

Your site URLs should be clean and easy to understand as well as containing your keyword. Lengthy or confusing URLs aren’t good because it can confuse the search engine with too many keywords and your product may not rank.

For example, going back to the example we used earlier, a fitness gear site URL might be fitnessgear.com. Then your category page goes next: fitnessgear.com/womenswear. Next goes the item: fitnessgear.com/womenswear/meshleggings. In this scenario, ‘mesh leggings’ is the keyword for that particular product.
